This guide explains common questions in plain English. It does not replace official information from the Social Security Administration.
If you need an official calendar for a verified year, always check SSA publications. This site helps you apply the standard schedule rules and weekend/holiday shifts.
The usual rule
If your Social Security is scheduled on the 3rd and the 3rd is not a business day, the payment typically shifts earlier to the prior business day.
Why it can look confusing
When the 3rd shifts earlier, it can land on the 1st or 2nd of the month (or the end of the prior month in rare cases).
That does not usually mean you received an extra payment.
Planning tip
Treat shifted payments as an “early arrival” for that month. If you are balancing bills, plan for the deposit to show up earlier.
