How the Birthday Groups Work (2nd, 3rd, or 4th Wednesday)
By WhenIsMyCheck Editorial Team • Last updated:
Quick answer: If you are not in the “paid on the 3rd” group, your birthday day‑of‑month places you into the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Wednesday group.
- 1st–10th → 2nd Wednesday.
- 11th–20th → 3rd Wednesday.
- 21st–31st → 4th Wednesday.
- If payday is a holiday, it moves to the prior business day.

Quick answer: If you receive Social Security and you are not paid on the 3rd, your payment day depends on the day of the month you were born (1–10, 11–20, or 21–31).
The three groups
- Born 1st–10th → paid on the 2nd Wednesday
- Born 11th–20th → paid on the 3rd Wednesday
- Born 21st–31st → paid on the 4th Wednesday
Examples
- Birthday: June 7 → choose 1st–10th (2nd Wednesday each month).
- Birthday: June 15 → choose 11th–20th (3rd Wednesday each month).
- Birthday: June 29 → choose 21st–31st (4th Wednesday each month).
Holiday shifts
If your Wednesday (or the 3rd / 1st) lands on a weekend or federal holiday, payments typically move to the prior business day. This site applies those shifts automatically for the selected year.
